Food Acquisition

To get this out of the way: I’m getting sick and it’s quite unpleasant. My sinuses just suck at life. I wish I had someone around who loved me to bring me some wonton soup. For now I’m chugging Emergen-C like nobody’s business (I’ve found it shortens the life of my colds) and probably will have chicken soup tonight. Or Ramen, if my chicken soup isn’t good anymore.

I have a few cooking adventure posts to write, but I’m not in the mood right now, so instead, you get to hear about some of the food I acquired lately. Aren’t you lucky.

Since my last post, about Pumpkin and just about everything related to it, I went to Trader Joe’s and bought up nearly everything pumpkin-flavored they had. Pancake and waffle mix, bread and muffin mix, oatmeal, greek yogurt. I even bought some canned pumpkin, assuming that I’ll use it for something, whether it’s to make pumpkin flavored coffee or to bake… you should be shocked to learn that I did not buy any pumpkin  beverages. If they’d had a pumpkin coffee, I’m sure I would have. I’ve already tried out the pancake mix and oatmeal. I’m not great at pancakes, but I blame not having a good pan.

I also bought some of my old standbys – chicken tamales and “Avocado’s number,” the most adorably named guacamole in the world.

Last night I ordered out and won at it. I had a $10 voucher to use and a sudden intense need for jalapeno poppers. I picked the first restaurant on the list that had poppers on the menu: Crispy Dough Pizzeria. It doesn’t sound like a place that would have great food, maybe just ok food, but I figured it wouldn’t hurt to try. I ordered the poppers, of course, and a buffalo chicken wrap, because I wanted spicy. My body was telling me to have spicy food today (i.e., yesterday) and soup tomorrow (i.e., today), so that’s what I did. Who am I to argue with my stomach? Try that, and you end up with acid reflux. Sometimes. Not fun.

Crispy Dough review: I love that online ordering is so easy, although my bank account is just slightly less happy about it. Delivery was timely, right about when it said it would arrive, and they found the right address. Yay. The food itself was actually pretty good. The wrap would have been improved by tomatoes, but I’m sure I could have added them to the order. The jalapeno poppers were PERFECT. So creamy and cheesy and spicy, not greasy at all. They came with some marinara sauce, which I saved to use on pasta later on this week. I also saved half my wrap for lunch today. I think the prices are quite reasonable for what you’re getting, and out of one order I ended up with at least two meals. Score 1 for Crispy Dough’s. I’m sure I’ll be ordering from there again.

I suspect this post is a bit more tedious than readers would generally like. So sorry. Next time I promise it will be more interesting.
