Welcome to the blog of experimental living.
NOTE: I’m working on turning this blog into the site I really want it to be, and in the meantime you may notice a lot of changes! I’m sorry if this bothers you but I really think it will pay off if I put in this effort now. I will be trying to post more often but there may also be a lot of redesigning, rearranging, and lots of random topics! (Because that’s what no-recipe living is all about.) Please have patience and please send me a message or a comment to prod me along if you don’t see any changes happening! And as I work on this, feel free to check out my writing blog, which I don’t have plans to overhaul in the near future. (Link below.)
I am not trained as any type of cook, whether it be grilling, fine cuisine, or pastry-baking. I am not particularly skilled at making food; I look at complex recipes and my eyes nearly jump out of my head at all the preparation and effort needed to follow them. It’s just not for me. But, I have always been pretty good at creatively making simple food, like seasoned, skillet-grilled chicken, pasta sauces, stir-fry, and many other such things. If you have a look at some of my earlier posts, you’ll see some examples of delicious food I’ve successfully made mostly by improvisation.
As time goes by and I keep cooking, I find that I’m getting much better at it, and I can successfully cook all kinds of things I would have found challenging before. It comes from just being willing to try and fail, really. Not being too worried about the outcome, I can explore and discover what I like and how things come out.
That’s how I want to approach other aspects of my life, too. Fashion, shopping, decorating, exploring my city. There’s no point in trying to follow someone else’s rule book. That guide works for them, but it won’t work for me–at least, not all of it.
This blog is about living without a recipe. Originally I intended a food blog, but I threw out that rule when I decided I wanted to talk about clothing and adventures and random other things. I can’t say exactly what the contents of the blog will be in the end, but really, how would this be a no-recipe blog if I could? Wouldn’t that be contradictory?
In my “spare time” (whatever that is), I try to be a writer. You can check out my writing blog, titled Between Worlds, at devajashewaywriting.wordpress.com. You can also follow me on twitter @devawriting.
If you would like to contact me with any questions, comments, statements, etc., and wish to do so by email, please use the address devawriting at gmail dot com.
Thanks for checking out the random adventure that is my life. I invite you to throw away the recipe along with me!
